First long-term study on COVID deaths suggests vaccines safe four years on

The first long-term study on the risks of the Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccine has found that those vaccinated have a lower risk of dying from the infectious disease.

The study, by the French epidemiological group EPI-PHARE, analyzed data from 22.7 million vaccinated individuals and 5.9 million unvaccinated individuals aged 18 to 59 in France.

Although many studies have evaluated the impact of COVID vaccines on short-term mortality rates, none have compared long-term mortality risks by vaccine status.

Nationwide data has found that those who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine had a 74 per cent lower risk of dying from Covid, even four years after being vaccinated.

This remained consistent even when the researchers took into account factors such as age, wealth, and health status, but they speculated that there may be other factors they did not measure.

Researchers also found that vaccinated people had a 25 percent lower risk of death from any cause.

The results show that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are safe in the long term, the authors said.

The authors concluded: “The analysis by cause of death reflects the long-term effectiveness of the vaccine against the risk of death from Covid-19 and more generally against the risk of contracting a severe, hospitalized form of Covid-19.”
