First show at Marvel in band’s Australian tour

Before going electric, Liam says “Have a nice day” while holding the tambourine in the air Morning Gloryin a row Some Might Say.

This mid-90s era of the band features a wall of guitar, salty vocals, and groovy choruses. Liam is in great form; His angry voice, leaning towards the microphone, arms behind his back and all that cool attitude. “Great things,” he says after one song. “Smooth.”

I hate to stray from the official narrative, but I believe the band’s breakup in 2009 was due to their waning interest rather than the Gallagher brothers’ feud. There’s a reason why this concert consists almost entirely of highlights from that triumphant album trilogy that ended in 1997. Be Here Now. Anyone would have thought that Oasis would go down in flames when they reached their peak in the late nineties, and would continue to falter for another decade or so.

While Oasis may not be the best band in the world, they are special. Where the band excels is in unmistakably synthesizing the best of their childhood influences.

Their formula is limited, but they expand it to surprising results. They channel T-Rex, Slade and the Stones at various points in the concert. John Lennon’s voice echoes in Liam’s.

Beatles references echo through nearly every song (in one sweet moment tonight, Anyway becomes the chorus Octopus’s Garden.

While they wear their influence on their sleeves, their best work is finding beauty in dead ends and ruins. liam dedicated Bring Down to smell the glue. “All I need is cigarettes and alcohol,” he sings. “The dreams we had while we were alive / as children are fading away.”

The majority of the crowd at Marvel Stadium is male and over the age of 30. The night coincides wonderfully with Halloween. I spy a man in Union Jack briefs and little else. Another is wearing a ‘God Save the King’ t-shirt, which is arguably weirder. The crowd veers into brutality several times. It looks like someone is shooting a flare. “Naughty, naughty,” said Liam.

After two peaks of the Oasis formula, supersonic And roll with itLiam steps out for a cup of tea and the duo’s songwriter Noel steals the spotlight for a bracket including enduring songs. “He’s not doing much, is he?” a friend of mine says to me. And of course, there are moments when Liam stares off into space with vague menace, and I can’t always understand what he’s talking about (there’s one anecdote about an encounter with a kangaroo by the sea that puzzles me), but he’s in complete control, his voice complementing his brother’s guitar tone perfectly. Avoidance Live Forever It gets crushed nicely with distortion.

Afterwards Rock and Roll StarTo which Liam replies: “I’m a princess these days and I need to go to bed.” But the inevitable repetition is the heart of the show. christmas singing masterplan before you start Don’t Look Back in Anger, The most important work of the group. Men in the crowd embrace. I see tears. “The male loneliness epidemic has just ended,” says my friend.

And then probably the first pop song I ever liked: wall of wondersThe lyrics are known to anyone who has had a beer in a bar anywhere in the world. And here is the only man in the world who can justify picking up an acoustic guitar and singing and doing it.

Someone near me lights a joint as he gets closer”Champagne Supernova” reaches its climax, the chorus being lifted into the air by 50,000 people, drunk and exuberant. Noel puts his tambourine on his head like a halo. The brothers embrace once more. The imaginary fight is over. Amen.
