Five people lose their lives on WA roads across Easter long weekend
An 11-year-old boy died after being shot while riding a push scooter in Mandurah; This brought a tragic end to a string of deaths over the Easter long weekend.
Emergency services responded to reports that a scooter had collided with a blue Mazda station wagon in Mandurah Terrace, near Stewart Street, at around 5.10pm on Monday.
The young scooter rider suffered serious injuries and was transported to Peel Health Campus, where he later died.
The 46-year-old driver of the Mazda stopped at the scene and assisted police with the investigation.
The incident was one of five deaths during the long weekend period from Thursday evening to Monday night.
On April 2, two fatal incidents occurred just five minutes apart in the Perth Hills area; The third occurred later that night in Derby, in the north of the state.
At around 4.25pm, a silver Ford F-150 commercial vehicle collided with a dirt bike on the Albany Highway between Admiral and Narbethong roads in Bedfordale.
The 14-year-old motorcycle driver died at the scene, while the 19-year-old driver escaped uninjured.
Just five minutes later and 20 kilometers to the north, a 30-year-old man crashed his Harley Davidson motorcycle while traveling south along Kingsbury Drive in Jarrahdale.
He also died at the scene.
Five hours later in Derby, an 18-year-old woman died after the four-wheel drive vehicle in which she was a passenger rolled over with three other people.
At 9.45pm their white Nissan Patrol was rolling across the mud flats on Rowan Street.
The two 17-year-old male passengers and the 19-year-old male driver escaped uninjured.
The driver assisted police with their investigation.
Then, just after midnight on Monday, emergency services responded to the crash scene in Como after a red Ford Falcon sedan crashed into a tree.
The car, which was traveling on Hayman Road, went off the road and crashed into a tree when the driver lost control of the steering wheel.
The 35-year-old male passenger was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with critical injuries and later died.
The 45-year-old male driver was also taken to RPH with serious injuries.
The latest deaths bring the state’s toll to 50 for the year.
