Floyd Mayweather announces boxing comeback after retiring 9 years ago

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has said he is coming out of retirement after nine years away from the sport and will return this summer.
He is returning to the ring for a match as part of a promotional deal with CSI Sports/Fight Sports.

“I still have what it takes to break more records in the sport of boxing,” Mayweather said in a statement. he said. “From my upcoming Mike Tyson event to my next pro fight, no one will generate a bigger gate, have a bigger global broadcast audience, and make more money from each event than my events.”
Undefeated Mayweather, who turns 49 on Tuesday, hasn’t fought a real bout against Conor McGregor since 2017. Following this bout, Mayweather announced his retirement with a 50-0 record and 27 knockouts.

The former five-division world champion is still in the ring regularly throughout his 40s, with a series of lucrative exhibition bouts against the likes of online sensation Logan Paul, YouTuber Mikuri Asakura and John Gotti III, the grandson of the infamous mob boss.
Mayweather has already announced another showcase against 59-year-old Mike Tyson this spring, but no location or television partner has been confirmed.

Mayweather spent more than a decade as arguably the biggest American star in boxing, defeating Manny Pacquiao in 2015 in the richest fight in boxing history. Superior defensive skills and quick hands were his strengths in the ring, but his stardom and wealth proliferated largely thanks to his “Money May” anti-hero persona.

Now, as he approaches the age of 50, he will try one more time and put his unbeaten record in jeopardy.
