Food Min hikes usage charges for gunny bags by 40 pc to ₹10.22 per used bag

New Delhi, August 29 (PTI) on Friday, the center, Gunny bags increased its usage fees by 40 percent La10.22 A movement aimed at providing financial assistance to states and union regions per bag and improving supply operations.
In an official statement, the Minister of Union Food and Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi said, “The Indian government has increased its usage fees for Gunny Bags by 40 percent and has brought financial aid to the state governments and union regions in the country,” he said.
The decision aims to ensure trouble -free supply operations and support sustainable packaging applications, the Central State cooperation will also improve food allocation and distribution, he added.
The center received requests from various states and UTs for revision.
The Food and Public Distribution Department created a committee to examine this issue in accordance with Food and Consumer Affairs.
The Committee consisted of state governments/UTS and India Food Company (FCI) for a comprehensive examination of packaging fees.
Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Tahangana, Uttar Pradesh and Harena State governments gave their suggestions to the committee.
“On the basis of the Committee’s suggestions, the Indian government revised the charges of use. La7.32 per bag used La10.22 per bag used or the real cost of the state state/UT, whichever is lower, dedi he said.
Usage fees for used Gunny bags are increasing in proportion to the increase in the cost of new Gunny bags from 2017-18 to 2024-25 from 2017-18 to KMS. The revised ratio is valid from the KMS 2025-26.
