Food recall: Supermarket shelves stripped after Bajaria Global coconut product contaminated with hepatitis A

Supermarket shelves are being dismantled and an immediate recall is being issued after a frozen food product is found to be contaminated with Hepatitis A.
Consumers are urged not to consume Fresh ‘N’ Frozen Favour-ita Shredded Coconut and instead return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
In the statement made by Food Standards Australia and New Zealand, it is stated that “Food products contaminated with Hepatitis A virus may cause disease when consumed.”
“Consumers concerned about their health should seek medical attention.”
Bajaria Global, trading as The Spice Merchants, is carrying out the recall for products available for sale in independent retail stores in WA.
The recall affects products with lot number Fl-08-25, dated July 2028.
According to HealthDirect, Hepatitis A is a reportable viral infection that affects the liver.
“Most infections result from consumption of contaminated food or water. The illness usually lasts several weeks, and most people recover fully.”
Symptoms may include fatigue, fever, nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, clay-colored poop, and jaundice. A blood test is required to diagnose hepatitis, but there is no medicine that can treat the disease.
Health Direct instead advises patients to rest, drink fluids and eat healthy.
The health scare comes a day after FSANZ recalled Aldi’s Hillcrest Bubble bars after rubber bits were found in the product.
The 132 gram bars are sold in Aldi stores in Australia.
Chocolate rainbow, birthday cake and chocolate chip flavors, which have an expiration date of September 8, 2026, have all been recalled.
