Food enterprises should facilitate the purchase of healthy foods in accordance with the new government plans announced on Sunday.

Supermarkets and food manufacturers in the UK will establish a partnership with the government to combat obesity rates by encouraging people to make people healthier.

Ministers say that deciding how they do it will be food retailers, but it may include presenting promotions in healthy foods, changing loyalty points to promote healthy options, or changing shops.

It may also include changing products to make it healthier.

It is hoped that plans will help to make healthy nutrition more accessible to customers and to alleviate the pressure on NHS.

Policy will see that large food retailers report on healthy food sales to increase accountability, but it does not bring specific goals.

The plan is part of a series of measures aiming to improve the health of the nation, which will be included in the 10 -year NHS plan in the UK, which is expected to be published next week.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting, “Unless the rising cost and demand does not block the tide, NHS risks to be sustainable.” He said.

“This government’s passion for children today is that they are part of the most healthy generation generation so far. This is in our understanding.”

The upcoming report will indicate that more than five children live with obesity when they leave primary school, and in the largest regions, almost one out of every three people.

A recent report found A basket of healthy foods is more than twice the less healthy options..

Food Foundation, ready -made food and processed meats for less healthy foods compared to £ 4.30, fruit and vegetables, such as 1,000 calorie healthy food, said it costs £ 8,80.

Andrew Opie from the British Retail Consortium said the news was “really positive”, but “all food businesses” should work together to reduce obesity.

“The interaction of all food businesses makes a difference, Op Opie said to the BBC.

“This is not only about supermarkets- we consume about one quarter of our calories outside the house, so we will not move all supermarkets, food retailers and restaurants on the obesity on the ship.”

Opie said how businesses shop for food and the best one for their customers have accepted the government’s flexible approach to standards because they have “too much insight and data”.

Katharine Jenner, Director of the Obesity Health Alliance, said: “The government rightly described the main cause of obesity: a food system that makes healthy nutrition difficult.”

He said that it is encouraging to see that the government draws attention to businesses instead of bringing burden to individuals who are already struggling to deal with.

In addition to the new partnership, the government said:

  • To be active through a new application and shopping coupons for customers in exchange for healthy nutrition
  • Diabetes in the NHS Digital Weight Management Program or twice the number of areas supporting high -blooded obese individuals
  • Bring more strict rules about alcohol advertising in accordance with the current regulation to promote junk food.

It is hoped that new guidance will generally reduce the sugar and calorie intake of people.

The government has conducted research showing that only 50 calories a day will remove 340,000 children and two million adults from obesity.

Researchers, excessive overweight everyone is only 216 calories per day, if the intake of calorie, obesity will be reduced to half, he said.

For the first time, the government did not want voluntary partnerships with industry. In the last 20 years, there have been many food reformulation programs aimed at reducing salt, sugar and calories in some foods.

Between 2015 and 2020, success was mixed with a 20% reduction of sugar in certain foods.

Sarah Woolnough, the king’s fund thought tank, said welcome, the impact of the plan may be limited.

“Less healthy food and beverages are purchased than local markets and packages.

“Unless unhealthy foods are much cheaper and easier, and this change is not enough as long as it is part of a wider, comprehensive strategy.”
