In May 2024, a man wielding a chainsaw chased a police officer down the street and attempted to kill him in Paisley, Scotland.

Newly released footage shows Liridon Kastrati, 32, trying to kill PC Gary Cowan in a scene the judge described as a “horror movie”.

The judge said Kastrati was driving a car and crashed into the police vehicle, then tried to flee the scene, then returned and removed the chainsaw from the boot of his car.

Judge Gallacher later told how Kastrati chased Pc Cowan down the street while he turned on the chainsaw.

The police officer ran away and feared Kastrati would “cut off his limbs” if he caught up with him, the judge added.

Kastrati was sentenced to 10 years in prison at the High Court in Glasgow on Tuesday 20 January.
