As the war continues in the Middle East, an updated travel advice covering 31 countries has been published.

United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) announced the update today (March 19). This is one of many documents issued by the FCDO for British citizens planning to travel to, or already in, affected countries. The latest was released this afternoon and covers 31 countries.

“Tension in the Middle East has caused widespread travel disruptions, including airspace closures and delayed and canceled flights. Your travel plans may be affected even if your destination is not in the Middle East,” the advice said.

This came as Iran intensified its attacks on oil and gas facilities around the Gulf three weeks after the war began.

Today (March 19), a refinery in Haifa, Israel, was hit in an Iranian attack as Tehran continues to target oil infrastructure in the Middle East. Haifa Oil Refinery, Israel’s largest oil processing facility.

The refinery is operated by the Bazan Group, has an annual capacity of 9.8 million tons of crude oil and provides 60% of Israel’s transportation fuel. The attack on the rifle shop is part of Iran’s retaliation after recent US-Israeli attacks on the country’s military and nuclear facilities.

The attack is likely to affect the current cost of oil, which is already affected by tensions and conflicts in the Middle East. Iran has recently intensified its attacks on oil and gas facilities around the Gulf and on Israel.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE also reported attacks on energy facilities. Tehran’s targeting of energy production has further highlighted global supplies already under pressure due to Iran’s dominance of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which one-fifth of the world’s oil is transported. Many airlines canceled all flights to and from these countries.
