Smoke seen for miles after Wolverhampton factory fire

People have been told to avoid the area as fire crews battle a massive blaze at a factory building in the West Midlands.
Firefighters from West Midlands Fire Brigade and Staffordshire are currently at the scene of the fire on Sunbeam Street in Wolverhampton, arriving at the scene shortly after 7.30am on Wednesday.
There are currently 21 fire trucks, two 4×4 brigade response vehicles and three hydraulic aerial platforms as firefighters try to extinguish the fire. An evacuation point has been allocated on Bromley Street, while police are also supporting traffic management.
The fire department described the incident as a “significant fire” that created a “large cloud of smoke.” It was stated that disruption was expected in the region throughout the day and night as fire crews worked at the scene.

The fire department said no injuries or fatalities were reported.
In an updated statement at 12.05pm on Wednesday, West Midlands Fire Brigade said: “We currently have 21 fire engines, two 4×4 brigade response vehicles and three hydraulic aerial platforms on duty. “Three teams from Staffordshire (Wombourne, Penkridge and Cannock) are supporting WMFS crews.
“This is a fire in a factory building measuring approximately 100m x 50m. Crews continue to work at the scene to extinguish the fire. Three hydraulic aerial platforms allow crews to target hot spots.”
“An evacuation point has been allocated on Bromley Street. Police teams are attending the incident and supporting traffic management.
“As you can see from the images this is a serious fire creating a large smoke cloud which has the potential to impact visibility and air quality.
“Anyone whose home or workplace is affected is advised to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution.
“We expect significant disruption in and around this area for the remainder of today, this evening and overnight as we work on scene, so please plan and adjust all your journeys accordingly.”
