Former India coach roots for Yashasvi Jaiswal, wants him to score a triple hundred on Day 2 of 2nd Test vs WI

Former head coach and legendary spinner Anil Kumble believes flamboyant opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is in the best spot to score the first triple hundred in the Test format for India during the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Former head coach and legendary spinner Anil Kumble believes flamboyant opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is in the best spot to score the first triple hundred in the Test format for India during the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Jaiswal came into the limelight on the opening day after batting all day and remained unbeaten with a score of 173 (253) off 22 fours. After India opted to bat, Jaiswal adopted a cautious approach to neutralize the threat posed by action in the West Indies.

He stepped up a gear in the second session and reached fifty points in 82 shots. He added his next 50 runs off just 63 deliveries to score his seventh Test ton. Jaiswal passed 150 in the final session of the opening day and looked set to add a third double ton in the Tests as play progressed on Day 2.

“Jaiswal is getting better day by day. We talked about his hunger and his attitude to play big innings not just for himself but for the team. Even in the previous game, he had a good start but was dismissed early, so he has definitely made up for it here. He has shown throughout his short career that he does not waste such opportunities. Once he comes into the game, he seizes it and it is great to see that,” Kumble said. JioHotstar.

After missing the golden chance to accumulate runs to his name in the opening Test in Ahmedabad, Jaiswal made the most of it by racking up his fifth 150-over score. His score is the second highest for a Test player before turning 24. His remarkable achievements were further surpassed by Australian legend Don Bradman, who amassed eight 150-plus points before his 24th birthday.

With Jaiswal still on the edge and conditions continuing to be a batsman’s paradise, Kumble urged Jaiswal not to settle for two tons but take it a step further and complete his innings with three centuries, which would make him the third Indian to achieve this feat.

“He’s still there and can continue to score big runs tomorrow. As Sai Sudharsan mentioned, they definitely want to bat for as long as possible. Shubman Gill said they want to accumulate runs in the toss and that’s exactly what the Indian batsmen did on Day 1. Jaiswal has a big opportunity now, not just for a double hundred but maybe even for a triple hundred tomorrow.”
