Rachel Reeves red-faced on Sky News as show halts for breaking alert | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Sky News was forced to stop live coverage for a breaking news update after inflation fell to 3.6% in October. The latest development, which came as pre-Budget support to Rachel Reeves, showed that Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation has fallen since September. The inflation rate reached this level for the first time since June this year. Speaking to Sky News, Rachel Reeves acknowledged that living costs remain a significant burden on families across the country and promised to make it a priority in next week’s budget. He said he knew he needed to take ‘targeted action’ to reduce the budget further next week.

He said: “I recognize that inflation is still a huge burden on families across the country.” One person responded to Sky News and claimed on

Another argued: “Hmmm really!!? My water rate has just gone up 28%. This month’s inflation figure is used to determine public sector pay and pension increases in April, sometimes (I don’t know why 🙂 much lower than reality, for example it was 1.7% last year and much higher in both months.”

A third commented: “Food is so expensive and it’s just going up @Keir_Starmer @RachelReevesMP @UKLabour needs to do something about this and it’s urgent.”

Rachel Reeves is under intense pressure to ensure that any plans unveiled in next week’s budget do not drive up inflation and instead help reduce the cost of living.

The Chancellor is promising “fair elections that will deliver on the people’s priorities to shorten NHS waiting lists, reduce the national debt and reduce the cost of living”.

Meanwhile, shadow chancellor Mel Stride commented: “Inflation has been above target every month since Labour’s last budget, leaving working people worse off. “Labour’s last budget increased borrowing and taxes and increased inflation which is now hitting families.

“If Labor had a backbone, they would next week adopt our £47bn savings plan and Golden Economic Rule to ease inflationary pressures. Only the Conservatives have a leader with the backbone, the plan and the team to stabilize the public finances, reduce inflation and deliver a stronger economy.”
