Former Tory minister Zac Goldsmith to launch new sports radio station | Zac Goldsmith

Former Conservative minister Zac Goldsmith is launching a new sports radio station, trkradio, ahead of the men’s football World Cup this summer.
Track Radio Corporation is understood to have been granted a license by Ofcom last week, with Goldsmith and his brother Ben, a financier and environmentalist, also major investors.
Trkradio will go live for the first time next month, and the station’s presenters and other financial backers will be confirmed in the next few weeks.
Sources involved in the launch told the Guardian that the station will feature a mix of thoughtful talk about all sports and will aim to play music as well as offering broader content than basic football phone-ins.
The day-to-day running of trkradio will be managed by Iain Macintosh, former head of Athletic’s UK audio division, and former LBC commercial director Jonathan Arendt.
Trkradio will join a competitive market for sports fans dominated by the BBC’s Radio 5 Live and Radio 5 Sports Extra, as well as TalkSport, which has operated two channels for the past decade.
Zac Goldsmith resigned as Foreign Secretary in June 2023 over what he described as Rishi Sunak’s government’s “disinterest” in the environment.
The men’s World Cup, co-hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada, will kick off on June 11 with the final on July 19.
