Meghan Markle has been criticized for a major “cash grab” following accusations that she is “obsessed” with the Royal Family. The 44-year-old actress officially joined the Firm in 2018 after marrying Prince Harry in a lavish royal wedding, and the couple announced they were stepping back from royal duties less than two years later.
The former royal employee has been criticized for her decision to use aristocratic titles and branding associated with the monarchy. Sky News presenter Samara Gill recently claimed: Suit the actor was focused on using his royal title and monetizing his connection to the Royal Family for his own benefit.
The criticism follows controversy over a gift basket Meghan sent to a podcast host earlier this year, which included a card that read: “With compliments from HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”
Ms Gill fumed: “I think he wants approval but he also wants to continue to give up his royal titles and I think that’s one of the most damning and heartbreaking things the royal family has ever had to witness – for him to secretly use certain titles in his letter headings and then for them to find out.”
He added: “He’s obsessed with the Royal Family and he’s obsessed with the cash he can make from it.”
As reported by RadarOnlineA royal insider has claimed there is growing frustration within palace walls over Meghan’s use of titles and her relationship with the Firm.
The source said: “There is a belief among some people loyal to the monarchy that Meghan wants all the glamor, symbolism and commercial power that comes with royal status, without accepting the restrictions, obligations and scrutiny that come with royal duty.
“Critics think he continues to exploit his royal connection because he understands it is the basis of his global fame and business value.”
Also speaking to Sky News, Ms Gill also spoke about Meghan’s earlier comment that she was “a Sussex now”. Meghan Markle In the Netflix series, With love, Meghan.
She said: “Now, the infamous statement she made to Mindy Kaling (in which Markle said her last name was now ‘Sussex’ on her Netflix show) and then everyone calling her Megan Sussex was pretty powerful, and it never quite took off.”
Meghan currently lives in California with Prince Harry and their children, seven-year-old Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who turns five next month.
