Four arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after Christmas Day shooting in Sheffield

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was shot in Sheffield on Christmas Day.

A 20-year-old man is fighting for his life after the attack.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to Wilfred Drive in the Darnall area of the city just before midnight following reports a man had been shot in the chest.

The 20-year-old is in a critical condition in hospital and local residents told how prayers were read for him at the mosque across the road at lunchtime on Friday.

A man who lives near the scene said: “This is a huge shock. No one, whatever they were involved in, deserves to have this happen to them.” he said.

“This is a safe place. You can go about your business, it’s okay. But things get out of hand because of disagreements. I don’t understand this.”

On Friday afternoon, Wilfred Drive remained behind a police cordon, with police cars located just off the busy Staniforth Road, along with a 100-metre section of Wilfrid Road, guarding both ends of the scene.
