France: Horror as two dead babies found in freezer in ‘cursed village’ | World | News

Two dead babies were found in the freezer of a house in a “cursed village” as police launched a large-scale investigation.

A man contacted police on Tuesday after finding the body of a newborn baby in a freezer at his home in the Haute-Saône town of Aillevillers-et-Lyaumont, on the Vosges border, French press agency AFP reported. Police arrived at the scene and found the body of another baby. A woman was arrested around 1 a.m. Wednesday in Boulogne-Billancourt, in the Paris region.

The bodies of the two babies were found in the same village where a man brutally shot his own nephew to death in 2014. The connection between the woman and the children is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.

Jean-Claude Tramesel, mayor of Aillevillers-et-Lyaumont, told AFP that police had contacted him to inform him that they would close the street all night from 18:00 on Tuesday. “This is a small village of 1,500 inhabitants. We always think that these kinds of incidents happen to other people… We are stunned,” he told the press agency.

Prosecutor Cédric Logelin announced that he would hold a press conference at 18.30 “regarding the case opened following the discovery of a baby’s body and a bag containing a second baby in Aillevillers-et-Lyaumont.”

One resident spoke of a “cursed village,” referring to a 2014 murder.
