The two contacted Ms. Grünwald via Facebook and arranged a meeting. Ms Grünwald said: “We hit it off immediately. It was an indescribable feeling.”
The couple admitted they felt as if they had known each other for 35 years. Families also met. Ms Derler said her initial reaction to the news was “emotional turmoil”.
He said: “But my first thought was that Jessica was always going to be our child. And when I saw Doris, I thought she was so sweet.”
Evelin Grünwald said: “For me, my family is now even bigger and I finally feel confident in myself.” Ms. Baumgartner said it was good to see the situation becoming clearer, but acknowledged there were mixed feelings.
He said it was “huge” emotionally, containing “a lot of pain” as well as “beautiful” aspects of the story.
An operations manager at the hospital told the publisher LKH-Uniklinikum that he deeply regretted his mistake and apologized to both families.
