Frantic search for Brit missing in Tenerife after early-morning walk | UK | News

A BRITISH holidaymaker went missing in Tenerife just hours after flying to the island with his wife and going for an early morning walk.

Her disappearance was reported to police and her family were said to be very “concerned”, saying it was completely out of character for her. The missing man, so far identified only by his first name Michael, was in his early sixties and was staying in an apartment in the tourist resort of Los Cristianos in southern Tenerife.

A Facebook group dedicated to providing assistance to people reported missing in Tenerife posted a message about the disappearance in English and Spanish last night: “Missing in Los Cristianos in an all-blue outfit.

“Michael is in his early sixties and went for an early morning walk around 8am today, Sunday, March 15. He and his wife had just arrived on Saturday night and are staying in an apartment close to La Montañita in Los Cristianos.

“He has no phone or passport with him and carries very little money. This was reported to the police who control hospitals in Tenerife. The family are understandably worried because this is completely out of character for him.” The message added: “He comes from England and speaks English.”

Anyone with information about the missing man is asked to email enquiries@missingpersonstenerife.com. British expats and other well-wishers responded by offering support last night. One said: “I hope he is found safe.”

Carol Burton added: “I hope he is found soon, I know you said hospitals are being checked but it’s worth checking again in case he has fallen and hit his head, has a concussion and doesn’t remember anything, it’s a worrying time for you all.”

Deborah Clarke-Topper, who runs Missing Persons Tenerife, appealed to people: “For safety’s sake, please do not go hunting in the valleys or put yourself at risk; just be careful if you see it sitting somewhere or wandering around.”

On February 6, Susan Hornsby, 76, from Dorset, disappeared during a trip to Tenerife with her husband Peter.

An appeal was lodged and he was airlifted to hospital after he was dramatically found in a valley in Tenerife nearly 30 hours after he disappeared during a three-hour hike. Louise Bakewell, who ran the appeal, later thanked well-wishers for their concern, saying: “Thank you so much for all your help and advice. What a wonderful bunch of people – my faith in humanity has been restored. Just to clarify – she went for a walk alone and then fell ill. She found my iPhone inactive on her phone – please tell friends and relatives to always enable this if possible, just to be safe.”

On February 11, British holidaymaker Iain Stanley, 79, disappeared from Nerja on the eastern Costa del Sol after leaving a flat near the town’s Perla Marina hotel. Tragically, he was found dead after police searched the area for a week.
