After ICC Women’s World Cup win, BCCI slams PCB’s Mohsin Naqvi, threatens with action at ICC meeting
After India women won the ICC World Cup, the BCCI reignited its dispute with PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi over the loss of the Asia Cup trophy in September.

The India-Pakistan rivalry and war of words was repeated in the unexpected situation where Pakistan was not a part of the game. As India won the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup by beating South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, BCCI did not miss the opportunity to target Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi. Criticizing the Asian Cricket Council president, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia recalled how India is yet to claim the Asia Cup trophy, which they won in September.

Congratulatory messages poured in from across the world for Harmanpreet Kaur, who became the first Indian captain to lift the iconic trophy from the hands of International Cricket Council (ICC) President Jay Shah on Sunday night. However, BCCI Secretary Saikia left no opportunity to criticize Naqvi, who has been forcibly retaining the Asia Cup 2025 trophy since September 28 after Team India refused to take away the silverware from him in Dubai. “… After today’s win, our team immediately received the trophy. When our men’s team won the Asian Cup in Dubai, the trophy did not reach the BCCI office until today…” he said.

Asian Cup 2025 trophy dispute
Indian players refused to accept the trophy from Pakistani government minister Naqvi, who portrayed Pakistani players as warriors in army uniforms attacking India with warplanes. Although the Indian side offered to collect the trophy from the host country officials and said that foreign support staff could also receive the award, Naqvi insisted that only he would give the trophy to the Indians. Pakistan’s Home Minister took the trophy with him and said that a BCCI official and Team India member should take the trophy from him. Saikia announced that he would raise the issue in the ICC meeting on November 4 and threatened Mohsin Naqvi with strict action.

After Indian women lifted the ICC World Cup trophy on Sunday, she said: “10 days ago, we wrote to the ACC Chairman requesting that the trophy be handed over to BCCI as soon as possible. However, we have not received the trophy till date. We are waiting for the next day.” “If we fail to get the trophy by November 3, a meeting will be held at the ICC in Dubai. We will voice our complaint before the apex body of international cricket. I am sure the ICC will do justice and help India get the trophy as soon as possible.”
