It was announced on January 28 that The Original Factory Store had fallen into administration, putting the future of the chain’s 137 stores and 1,180 staff at risk. The discount retailer, which sells goods including clothing and homeware, appointed administrators from Interpath Advisory on Wednesday.
Its stores are spread across the country, with a total of 97 in England, 29 in Scotland, 10 in Wales and three in Northern Ireland. These locations will continue to trade while insolvency professionals evaluate options to keep the business afloat. However, The Original Factory Shop has now ceased its online operations, although all online sales made before Wednesday will be delivered as normal.

The Original Factory Store’s problems stem from difficult trading conditions linked to high cost inflation, fragile consumer confidence and rising labor costs caused by government policies, according to executives.
The problems were said to have been exacerbated by issues linked to the third-party warehouse and logistics operator, and sales were further weakened.
Interpath managing director and joint director Rick Harrison said: “The Original Factory Store has long been a cornerstone of local high streets up and down the country.
“But unfortunately commercial difficulties affected the business to such an extent that the company had to be placed into administration.
“Over the coming weeks, we will work closely with TOFS’ dedicated team of employees as we look to operate all stores as a going concern while evaluating business options.”
The business notified its intention to appoint administrators earlier this month.
