Christmas is fast approaching and most supermarkets across the country have now opened their delivery slots for the festive season. With the demand for door-to-door delivery increasing in recent years, many families are keen to organize early and make reservations before the quota is filled.
Shopping online has become the best choice for your Christmas dinner; It has helped families save precious time and everyone avoid the rush at the store. But finding delivery slots in December can be difficult as the country’s favorite supermarkets sell out quickly. By knowing each grocery store’s important reservation dates, you can make sure you won’t be disappointed and that all your holiday groceries will be sorted in no time. Here’s where and how you can secure your place, as well as important details for each major supermarket.
asda
Asda has confirmed that Christmas delivery slot bookings will open for Delivery Pass members on 15 October, with general customers gaining access from 21 October.
Delivery windows are from Sunday 21 December to Tuesday 23 December. The minimum spend is £40 for home delivery and £25 for click and collect.
Customers must have “Food to Order” items (e.g. holiday decorations) completed by December 15 and may make changes to other items until 11pm the day before delivery.
Partnership
The Co-op does not offer special early “Christmas slot” bookings as major supermarkets do. Customers must wait up to five days before their preferred delivery date to arrange a store for delivery.
No changes can be made to the order after payment has been made. No subscription delivery plan required: You can order directly with the Co-op for delivery, or via click and collect or via partner’s third-party services (Amazon, Just Eat, Uber Eats).
A minimum spend of £15 applies when ordering direct; Fees start from £1.99 and vary by platform.
Iceland
Similar to the Co-op, Iceland is not opening long-term bookings for Christmas slots. Instead, you must wait up to five days before your preferred slot.
Customers have until 23:00 the day before delivery to complete their orders. A minimum spend of £40 is required to qualify for free next day delivery.
M&S
The “Meals to Order” service for Marks & Spencer is now live and bookings are open from 23 September. This is a pickup only service (not home delivery) with slots approximately December 21st and 24th.
A minimum spend of £50 is required when booking, with part payment due in advance.
Morrisons
Morrisons opened festival slot bookings on 1 October for Delivery Pass holders and 8 October for all other customers.
Delivery and collection periods are between Saturday, December 20th and Wednesday, December 24th. Pass holders benefit from lower minimum spends and free delivery depending on order size.
Okado
Ocado has given Smart Pass customers access to its Christmas delivery program from 23 September, with delivery windows running from 20 December to 24 December.
The minimum spend on this route during the festive period is £90. Public release dates to all customers are still subject to notice.
Sainsbury’s
Delivery Pass holders were able to make reservations around October 16th, with general access starting October 23rd. Delivery windows will then run from around 18 to 24 December, and customers without a pass will need to allow a delivery charge unless their basket meets the minimum spend (around £40).
Tesco
Meanwhile, bookings for Christmas deliveries at Tesco start at the beginning of November. Those on ‘Anytime Delivery Savings’ or ‘Click+Collect’ plans will be able to book from 6am on 4 November, while all other customers will have access from 6am on 11 November.
The service covers deliveries until approximately December 23 or 24. The minimum spend to qualify for free delivery under plan terms is around £50, with delivery charges applying for off-plan customers.
Waiter
Waitrose opened its Christmas delivery slots for pass holders on Wednesday 24 September (provided the pass is active before Monday 1 September). Slots available from Wednesday 1 October for all other customers.
Delivery dates are from Saturday, December 20th to Wednesday, December 24th. Customers have until 11.59pm on Monday, December 15 to complete their “Food Made to Order” items and until 10pm the day before delivery for everything else.
A minimum spend of £40 applies to all orders; A minimum delivery charge of £2 will be added for customers without a pass.
It may seem early to be thinking about Christmas in October and November, but that’s exactly when major supermarkets publish their festive delivery windows. With the growth in online shopping and busy home schedules, the Christmas food delivery window has become as competitive as popular holiday flights.
