Furious Donald Trump blasts Ukraine for attack on Vladimir Putin’s house | World | News

Donald Trump said he was “very angry” following an alleged drone attack on one of Vladimir Putin’s residences in Ukraine. Moscow’s long-serving foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, accused Kiev of launching a 91-drone attack overnight on Putin’s home in the Novgorod region on Sunday; all of these attacks were shot down by Russian air defenses.

The allegations were denied by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, branding them “lies”. Asked about the news about the attack while hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago, the US President said that the news was “not good”. He said: “Do you know who told me this? President Putin said he was attacked early in the morning. This is of no use.”

He added: “It’s a sensitive time.

“This isn’t the right time. ‍It’s one thing to be aggressive, because they’re aggressive. ‍It’s another thing to attack his house. ‍It’s not the right time to do any of this.”

Zelensky responded to the accusations against X, calling the allegations “completely fabricated.”

He said: “This alleged ‘residence strike’ story is a complete fabrication intended to justify additional attacks on Ukraine, including on Kiev, and Russia’s refusal to take the necessary steps to end the war.”

Senior Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said Trump expressed surprise and anger at the alleged attack during his phone call with Putin.

The attack “certainly will not be left without a serious response,” Mr. Ushakov said, adding that Moscow would now review its negotiating position.

Mr Ushakov also claimed that Mr Trump had said that “thank God” he had not supplied long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kiev, adding that this would “undoubtedly” affect America’s approach to the negotiations.

It is unclear where Putin was at the time of the alleged attack; It is known that the Russian leader has many luxury residences across the country.

The reports came just hours after Zelensky claimed that the US had offered Ukraine a 15-year security guarantee under the proposed peace plan.

Ukraine’s president said he would prefer a commitment of up to 50 years to deter Russia from attempts to seize its neighbor’s territory by force.

US President Donald Trump hosted Mr Zelensky at his Florida resort on Sunday and claimed Ukraine and Russia were “closer than ever” to a peace deal.

Negotiators are still seeking a breakthrough on key issues, including whose forces are being drawn from where and the fate of the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, one of the world’s 10 largest nuclear power plants.

Mr. Trump noted that months-long U.S.-led talks could still collapse.

“Without security guarantees, realistically, this war will not end,” Mr. Zelensky told reporters.
