UK government wins £122m pandemic case against Michelle Mone-linked firm over faulty PPE | Coronavirus

The government won the legal claim to a company linked to a conservative peer Michelle Mone for the return of millions of lira paid for personal protective equipment during Covid pandemi.

In December 2022, the Ministry of Health and Social Care filed a lawsuit against PPE MedPro and argued that the 25 -meter surgical aprons it provided within the scope of the June 2020 government agreement did not comply with the KKD laws to ensure that sterile.

The trial heard that the aprons paid by DHSC £ 122 million were rejected after their first inspections in September 2020 and that they were never used in NHS. The aprons produced in China were labeled with a CE mark, which shows compliance with European standards, but no authorized quality assurance organization approved their safety and infertility.

Paul Stanley Kc, representing DHSC, argued that this meant that the aprons were “invalid and did not comply with the law”. Stanley referred to a statement that the aprons and aprons in the way that the potential impact on security can seriously harm patients or kill and cannot be released for use ”referred to a statement.

Ultimately, Mone’s husband, MAN -based businessman Doug Barrowman, owned by Ppe Medpro, defended the claim in the court. The company’s lawyer Charles Samek KC argued that the aprons were properly produced in China and sterilized and accepted the process before DHSC gave the contract.

“Minister of Foreign Affairs [for health] He knew everything you had to know about my client’s proposal, all the cards went face to face at the table and entered this contract… His eyes are clear, Samek said at the opening.

In the summer, the judge Mrs. Justice Cockerill, who heard the five -week hearing at the Rolls Building of London, decided in favor of DHSC and ordered the KKD MedPro to repay additional costs and interest rates £ 122 million.

Two contracts for a total of 203 million pounds to PPE Medpro were most controversial than the “VIP Lane olan, operated by Boris Johnson’s conservative government during the Covid pandemi. Thousands of companies have given a high priority to people with VIP Lane political connections as they bid for contracts to fill the overshadowed KKD stocks of the UK.

DHSC gave another contract worth 80.85 million pounds to supply PPE Medpro with 122 million pounds of apron contract and facial masks, then heard that the contracts remained actively with the civil servants of the Cabinet Office Michael Gove in May 2020.

In the 2000s, Mone came to a famous forward before falling into financial difficulties through the underwear company Ultimo, and David Cameron appointed him to the Lordlar Assembly in 2015. O and Barrowman said that they were in PPE MedPro in December 2023, confirming that a couple had a result of their participation and a result of Barrowman.

In November 2022, Guardian announced that Barrowman was paid at least 65 million pounds from the KKD Medpro profit, and then transferred 29 million pounds to a confidence established to benefit Mone and three adult children. In a BBC interview in December 2023, Barrowman admitted that he was paid more than 60 million pounds and transferred money to confidence; The couple said that their children were also beneficial.

The Supreme Court of Court on the Sterile Surgical apron supply contract was left with an ongoing investigation by the National Crime Agency, which continued whether Mone and Barrowman committed any criminal offense during the process of obtaining contracts in May 2021. Mon and Barrowman rejected any criminal injustice.

During the hearing, in December 2023, DHSC appeared to apply for the pause of the Supreme Court until the result of any criminal proceedings, based on NCA’s claim that it would be for the interests of justice. Samek said that PPE Medpro was against the application and then DHSC did not continue with it.
