Sophie Turner discovered a chronic health condition while training for her role as Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider television series.

The 29-year-old Game Of Thrones actor revealed a recurring back problem during the grueling training process before he emerged as an epic adventurer.

Appearing on the Julia Cunningham Show, Sophie said: ‘We have been training eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year. Yes, it’s been a long time.

‘I learned that I had a persistent back problem, but I also realized that it’s much easier to build muscle if you’ve exercised before in your life, which I never did, so it took me months and months and months to get into good shape.’

Sophie is best known for her role as Sansa Stark in HBO series Game Of Thrones, but insisted her years on the show did not help prepare her for Tomb Raider as she did not appear in any of the action scenes.

‘No, I was a cool queen who didn’t have to do that. Also, I was the one who was beaten, not the one who beat me.

‘So, learning how to throw a punch and just learning how to throw a punch is pretty cool,’ he explained.

The actress, who has five-year-old daughters Willa and three-year-old Delphine from her ex-husband Joe Jonas, became the last person to take on the role of Lara Croft after two films starring Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

The series, currently in production, is an adaptation of the classic video game series.

Amazon MGM Studios released the first look photo of the actress in the legendary video game hero character last week.

In a flash, Sophie sported Lara’s signature black shorts and green tank top look. a leather backpack, aviator sunglasses and a braided ponytail.

The Amazon MGM Studios Instagram account posted: ‘Get your works out. Lara is on her way.”

Sophie previously revealed that she had been training for a year for her new role in the series.

Speaking to ScreenRant, the actor said: ‘I can’t say much, but my preparations started in February. [2025].

‘I have been training for a long time, approaching a year and we will start shooting in January.

‘I’m really excited but I feel prepared and I feel really lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon and I’m excited for the world to see what we’re going to do with Lara and Tomb Raider. I think it will be something special.’

She joins the likes of Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs in the video game adaptation.

Sophie will next star in the highly anticipated drama Steal, in which she will play the role of an ordinary office worker caught in the middle of a major criminal operation.

All six episodes will be released on Amazon Prime on January 21.
