Royal unsung hero shows Andrew, Harry and Meghan how to behave | Royal | News

If it had been Prince Harry, Meghan or Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, they would have chartered a helicopter or taken first class and probably taken the rest of the car out for good measure. But instead, facing a two-hour intercity train journey from London to Bristol, the humble Lady Louise Windsor, 17th in line to the throne, sat cross-legged on the floor when she realized there were no seats available.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh’s down-to-earth 22-year-old daughter hasn’t made a fuss or screamed about her privacy or security. No; Leaving Paddington, he crouched down, pulled out his laptop, sipped a cup of PG Tips – it depends on one’s taste – and began writing a paper for the University of St Andrews.
A photo taken of her on the train by a fellow passenger is one of the most uplifting images I’ve seen in a long time, instilling the belief that many young royals can humbly teach their more authoritative, older peers a lesson or two outside the bubble of their egos.
He never earned the nickname ‘Air Miles Andy’ by boarding a public train. Not unless Jeffery Epstein is doing his island tours.
Meanwhile, the Sussexes seem to spend their lives flying around the world for an environmental conference or human rights conference, and I don’t see them cycling there.
In October last year, the Express revealed that in the 10 months leading up to that point in 2024, the Sussexes had already logged 83,000 air miles.
The couple, who stepped down as senior royals in 2020, continue to support a range of causes through their Archewell organisation, and claim they must therefore travel around the world to support it.
The 83,000 air miles did not include domestic flights and private holidays on visits to Nigeria and Colombia, and since the circumference of the earth is 24,901 miles, it equates to more than three trips around the world.
Can you see Harry and Meghan sitting on the floor of a packed Great Western train, with some football fans at the table above opening a few boxes to steel themselves for that afternoon’s crunch derby?
I can’t either. But also Lady Louise’s ’17th.’ I also can’t see you putting out a book called ‘Next’ and begging for a Netflix deal to make ends meet.
For this reason HE Lady Louise’s unhurried image is also wonderful and meaningful. This tells me that some unassuming young royals not only grew up fairly normally, but actually felt it.
She’s not the first royal to travel unnoticed; Aunt Princess Anne took the London Underground while heading to London Fashion Week in 2020. However, Anne makes a change and inherits her mother’s sense of duty.
Lady Louise is dating fellow student and young Army man Felix da Silva-Clamp. I think he would be extremely popular if he took on royal duties after graduation.
But if it does happen, there are two things I want to tell him before it happens. First of all, of course, try to imitate your parents or Aunt Anne, but just be yourself.
Second, next time, sneak into First Class, tell the overcrowded train you think it’s been declassified, grab a free bottle of water, and use the better WiFi.
For two hours you’ll feel like royalty… and who could enjoy it better?
