Gas leak at ONGC oil well in Konaseema triggers fire, mass evacuation

ONGC officials reached the spot to assess the situation and analyze the cause of the incident.

A gas pipeline leak at a well operated by ONGC’s production contractor Deep Industries Ltd in Andhra Pradesh caught fire on Monday. According to PTI, an official from Maharatna company said that as per preliminary information, there was no report of any death or injury. The incident took place in Mori village of Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district. Following the gas leak and subsequent fire, senior officials of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in Rajahmundry rushed to Mori village.

“The fire occurred due to a gas pipeline leak at the Mori-5 well, operated by Deep Industries Ltd. as part of its production development operations,” the official told the news agency. he said. He said ONGC officials reached the spot to assess the situation and analyze the cause of the incident.

Konaseema district administration is also involved in the incident and is coordinating firefighting and safety measures in the region. Deep Industries Ltd, ONGC’s Production Development Contractor (PEC), has been operating the Mori-5 well for about a year, the official added.
