UK snow maps show exact date Britain hit by 40cm blizzards and -14C freeze | Weather | News

Brits should prepare for frigid conditions with shockingly low temperatures that will soon hit the UK. Latest maps show temperatures dropping to -14C in some areas and snowfall across the UK. This comes after parts of the UK were hit with snow this week.
A map from forecaster WXCHARTS shows lows of -14C could be seen in Scotland at 12 noon on Sunday 18 January. Temperatures in England will vary between -7C and 3C, while in Wales it will be between -4C and 0C. Snow depth maps show up to 40cm of snow in Scotland.
In Northern Ireland, temperatures will vary between -4C and 0C. In another map from 18:00 on January 17, the forecast shows where the snow will fall.
Much of Scotland will be cold and snow-covered, with some areas experiencing up to 10cm of snowfall. Meanwhile, although the weather in the UK is cold, it looks mostly dry so far, with little to see rain or snow.
But snow will not be avoided anywhere in the east of England, where snowfall of between 1mm and 10mm per hour will occur.
Separately, the Met Office’s long-range weather forecast for Friday 9 January to Sunday 18 January says: “A volatile period is expected as Atlantic frontal systems impact the UK at times and are likely to precede snowfall in some areas, particularly central, northern and eastern areas.
“There is likely to be significant snowfall in some places, especially in the northern hills. These low pressure systems can also bring strong winds.”
“These will be interspersed with quieter, drier intermediate rainfall under temporary ridges of high pressure with freezing potential and winter showers along coasts exposed to northerly winds.
“Temperatures will tend to approach average as the period progresses, particularly in the south, so that the frequency of winter hazards may decrease slightly, especially in the south.
“But there is a hint that the weather may be drier and colder for a short time towards the end of this period.”
