Gautam Gambhir slams THIS ‘IPL team owner’ for split-coaching demand after ODI series win, says, ‘Stay in your domain’

Addressing the media after the series win, Gambhir suggested that people outside the cricket ecosystem should refrain from commenting on matters outside their expertise. Although Gambhir did not name the owner, it was clear that he was talking about Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal.

Gautam Gambhir, head coach of the Indian cricket team, has expressed surprise at the criticism he has faced, especially regarding the team’s performance in Test cricket. After India’s 2-1 ODI series win against South Africa in Visakhapatnam, Gambhir admitted that the results were not ideal, especially in Test matches. He also criticized the Indian Premier League team owner for overstepping boundaries by proposing a split coaching arrangement.

Although Gambhir did not name the owner, it was clear that he was talking about Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal. Jindal had suggested a special red-ball coach for India’s Test team, which lost 0-2 to South Africa in a recent Test series.

Gautam Gambhir criticizes ‘IPL owner’

Addressing the media after the series win, Gambhir emphasized that the absence of captain Shubman Gill, who was sidelined due to a neck injury, was a major factor in India’s defeat in the Test series, and suggested that people outside the cricket ecosystem should refrain from commenting on issues outside their expertise.

He said: “I was surprised that no one spoke about it (Gill’s inability to bat) and all the discussions were around the field and many other things. “There were also people who had nothing to do with cricket and were voicing their opinions.

The Team India head coach further added: “An IPL team owner also wrote about a divided coaching staff that has nothing to do with the game. People should stay in their own sphere of influence. If I don’t come into anyone’s sphere of influence, they have no right to come into mine.”

Gautam Gambhir on Shubman Gill’s availability

Confirming Gill’s availability for the upcoming T20Is, Gambhir added: “Shubman is ready to go; that’s why he was selected. He is fit, hungry to work and improve. And look, there are quality players in this side. As I have said many times, they are world-class players.”

The controversy was sparked by Jindal’s criticism of India’s Test performances on social media. He wrote: “Not even close, an absolute grind at home! Don’t remember seeing our Test side this poor at home! This is what happens when red-ball specialists are not picked… Time for India to switch to a specialist red-ball coach for Test cricket @BCCI.”

India now turns its attention to the five-match T20I series against South Africa, which begins on December 9 in Cuttack and is followed by matches on December 11 (New Chandigarh), December 14 (Dharamsala), December 17 (Lucknow) and December 19 (Ahmedabad).
