Man arrested over murder of schoolgirl Lindsay Rimer in 1994

A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of 13-year-old Lindsay Rimer, who disappeared from her West Yorkshire home in 1994.
The teenager left his home in Hebden Bridge, near Halifax, on November 7 to buy cereal from a nearby store but never returned. His body was found five months later, weighted down with a stone, in the Rochdale Canal, about a mile from the town centre.
West Yorkshire Police said a man was arrested on Monday in an unnamed UK prison where he was serving a sentence for other offences.
A force spokesman said officers had “informed Lindsay’s family” and added that the arrest was “a result of our continued focus on progressing the investigation”.
The spokesman said the arrested man was being questioned by police and is expected to be released on bail and returned to prison while investigations continue.
Meanwhile, officers were approaching “a number of specific potential witnesses, particularly in the Hebden Bridge and wider Halifax area” identified by the investigation.
