Gavin Newsom Admits Next Political Ambition… As If It Weren’t Obvious Enough
Governor of California Gavin Newsom (D) asked during an interview if he was actually considering the idea of a future in the White House. This weekend’s episode of “CBS Sunday Morning.”
After posting a clip of the governor welcoming people to the Republican-dominated state of South Carolina, Robert Costa asked him if he planned to “seriously consider” the possibility of running for president in 2028, after the next midterm election cycle.

“Yes, otherwise I would be lying. I would just be lying. And I can’t do that,” Newsom admitted, adding that he still has a few years before he has to officially join a campaign.
He said fate will determine this.
The governor is set to leave Sacramento in January 2027, and term limits in California eliminate the option of another statewide election.
Already a big name in Democratic politics, Newsom’s profile has risen since he positioned himself as one of President Donald Trump’s loudest critics during his second term.

Instead of scolding or shaking his hand, he mostly prefers to troll. Makes fun of Trump’s boisterous social media style And the product is falling spoofs this president’s signature MAGA aesthetic.
But that doesn’t mean Newsom is ignoring key elements of election politics. He helped implement a blue-leaning redistricting plan on California ballots in this year’s special election in an effort to offset gerrymandering efforts in red states like Texas.

The governor told Costa that despite strong name recognition and a respectable political resume, the idea of a presidential run still seemed like a mind-boggling prospect for someone who once struggled to finish school.
“I have no idea. The idea that a guy who got a 960 on the SAT and still has trouble reading scripts is always at the back of the class,” Newsom said, referring to his dyslexia diagnosis. “The fact that you even put that aside is a remarkable idea in itself.”
“Who knows?” he added. “I’m looking forward to who will present themselves and meet that moment in 2028. That’s the question for the American people.”
