Gaza woman recalls broken dream after UN inquiry calls attack on IVF clinic genocide

By Bassam Masoud and Saleh Salem

Doha (Reuters) -Najwa Abu Hamada, an UN Investigation Commission, did not feel any sense of justice when Israel said the destruction of a fertility clinic among the actions he said he had shown that he had been doing genocide in Gaza.

Instead, the commission’s findings revived painful memories from the embryos that he had lost when he was shot by the Israeli forces in the late 2023 at the Al-Basma IVF Center in Abu Hamada.

Like other gazans, Abu Hamada also feels silent to protest while pressing with almost two -year -old military attack in Gaza and Israel feels quiet and death wages continue to increase.

Embryos were destroyed in the attack on IVF Center

“Genocide not only aims for men, children and women, but also targets frozen fertility eggs – my only hope,” he said.

“Israel has arrived and even the genocide reached my own embryos in the Basma Center. What can be compensated for me?”

Abu Hamada, using fertility procedures in Gaza, already had a child and still wonders that he could have another 49 -year -old child.

On Tuesday, he and her husband, Eyad Abu Hamada, spoke to Bahaeldeen Ghalayini, a birth specialist and gynecologist who founded the Al Basma Center, about the possibility of getting more fertility treatment.

“The doctor told us that he didn’t lose hope, his husband said.

The couple went to Qatar for fertility treatment before the Gaza war began. In 2023, the loss of embryos in Gaza took a great blow to the hope of having another child.

Israeli ambassador says the report is a ‘slander rent’

Reuters could not independently confirm the details of his story. However, Ghalayini confirmed that he had embryos stored in the Gaza clinic before he was attacked by Abu Hamada at the end of 2023.

The UN Commission concluded that the destruction of the Betma IVF Center was “a measure to prevent births between Palestinians in Gaza, one of the five actions or violations considered as genocide in accordance with the 1948 Congress.

“Israeli security forces have initiated a tank shell that directly hit the clinic and caused the explosion of five liquid nitrogen tanks, and as a result destroying all the reproductive materials stored here for the future understanding of the Palestinians.” He said.

Israel did not confirm to hit the clinic. During his military operation in Gaza, he refused to do genocide or deliberately targeting civilians or civil infrastructure, which aimed to eliminate Hamas after the group’s deadly attack on Israel on 7 October 2023.

“Unlike the deliberate attacks of Hamas on Israeli men, women and children on Wednesday, the Israeli defense forces said on Wednesday, IDF follows international law and is taking applicable measures to reduce civil damage.” He said.

Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Daniel Meron, said that the UN Investigation Commission’s Genocide’s genocide was “scandal” and “fake” and described his report as “slander”.

The Israeli attack destroyed 4,000 embryo

Reuters first reported that Ghalayini said that 4,000 embryo plus plus 1,000 more sperm and unspeccable eggs destroyed.

The 72 -page legal analysis of the Commission is the most powerful UN finding to date, but the organ is independent and does not officially speak for the United Nations. The UN did not use the term ‘genocide’, but under increasing pressure to do it.

Israel accused Hamas fighters of operating from the medical facilities rejected by Hamas.

With the demolition of the fertility clinic, the investigation commission referred to the scale of the murders in Gaza as proof of genocide, which helps to blockage and forced displacement.

Abu Hamada had a son Khalil, designed with fertility procedures in a different clinic. In 2022, he was killed during the age of 17 during the exacerbation of violence between Israel and Islamic Jihad militant group.

Abu Hamada, “God blessed me after 12 years (infertility) and five (IVF) transplant operations. After becoming a young man, he went and asked him to get married and celebrate the wedding and I lost him.” He said.

“We want everyone to stand with us. The whole world is watching and he does nothing.”
