Women’s World Cup 2035: New Old Trafford stadium on list of host venues

Manchester United’s proposed new Old Trafford stadium is one of 22 stadiums mentioned in England’s bid to host the 2035 Women’s World Cup.

Old Trafford has not been considered for the 2028 men’s European Championship and its redevelopment is still in the planning stages.

There is no objection to the joint proposal by England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and it is expected to be approved at the FIFA congress in 2026.

If redevelopment plans do not materialise, Old Trafford will still be considered in its current form.

Other stadiums to feature include Birmingham City’s planned new stadium and Wembley, which will likely host the final.

If England’s bid is approved, the 2035 Women’s World Cup will be the second World Cup held in their country after the men’s tournament was held in England in 1966.

Friday’s announcement listed a total of 22 stadiums – 16 in England, three in Wales, two in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland.
