A mother of three whose husband was battling cancer was shot and killed by her roommate, who police mistakenly thought was an intruder.
A spokesperson for the Columbus, Georgia Police Department confirmed to Fox News Digital that 31-year-old Erica Anderson was shot and killed by her roommate, who mistook her for an intruder, as she returned to a rented room after visiting family in Indiana on October 13.
The shooting remains under investigation and police will not be releasing any further details at this time, the spokesman said.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said: WTVM Anderson returned to his rented room in Columbus, Georgia, at midnight. Bryan said Anderson received threats of violence from his roommate’s son, including threats of bodily harm and threats to burn down the house.
When his roommate heard a sound while he was sleeping, he grabbed his gun and went out into the corridor. “He fired one shot, then he fired another shot and shot his roommate,” he said.
Bryan told local media the shooting was ruled an accidental death. It was stated that Anderson’s body will be sent to the state crime laboratory for autopsy. Fox News Digital has contacted the Muscogee County Coroner’s Office for additional details.
“You have to think about the roommate who shot him. I’m sure he’s as distraught as anyone under the circumstances,” he said.
