Germany, France and UK tell Iran to stop attacks in region

BERLIN, Feb 28 (Reuters) – Germany, France and Britain condemned Iran’s attacks on countries in the region on Saturday, saying Iran should refrain from indiscriminate military attacks and restart negotiations.
French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a joint statement, “We condemn Iran’s attacks on regional countries in the strongest terms.” he said.
“We call for the resumption of negotiations and urge the Iranian leadership to seek a negotiated solution. Ultimately, the Iranian people must be allowed to determine their own future,” they said.
The leaders said they have repeatedly called on Iran to end its nuclear program, halt its ballistic missile program, refrain from its destabilizing activities in the region, and end its horrific violence and oppression against its own people.
Adding that their country did not participate in the strikes on Saturday, the officials stated that “they are in close contact with international partners, including the USA, Israel and partners in the region.”
“We reiterate our commitment to regional stability and the protection of civilian life,” they added.
