DMK deputy general secretary and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi said voters in Tamil Nadu should gift a painful defeat to the BJP, which has always hated Tamil, Tamil and Tamil Nadu and therefore refused to release the State’s due share of Central funds.
Ms. Kanimozhi, who voted for Tirunelveli Assembly constituency DMK candidate S. Subramanian in Gangaikondan on Monday, April 13, 2026, said that the BJP-led Union government, which had almost destroyed the rural employment guarantee scheme (MGNREGA) by drastically reducing fund allocation for the project that provided livelihood to the rural poor, also refused to release it. ₹ 3,600 crore was disbursed to Tamil Nadu under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, which ensures uninterrupted education of poor children, especially from rural areas.
