Girl, 13, who vanished in Arizona in 1994 while going to see her horse is found ALIVE 32 years on

A 13-year-old girl who disappeared 32 years ago from a small town near Phoenix, Arizona, has been found alive, authorities say.

Christina Marie Plante disappeared in the mountainous Star Valley region about 95 miles northeast of Phoenix on May 15, 1994, sparking an extensive search that failed to find her at the time.

Police said Plante, now 44, was last seen walking towards the stable where he kept his horse, then mysteriously disappeared ‘without a trace’.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that Plante had been found alive but did not provide details on how he was discovered “out of respect for his privacy.”

At the time of his disappearance, authorities said he disappeared under ‘suspicious circumstances’. Investigators have not yet revealed a reason for her disappearance.

A newspaper article published by The Morning Call on October 23, 1994 described Plante’s case as a kidnapping by a stranger. The sheriff’s office did not make any arrests.

The sheriff’s office said the case went cold but was never officially closed and was reviewed periodically by a cold case unit.

The sheriff’s office said in a statement: ‘Detectives utilized advances in technology, modern investigative techniques and detailed case review to develop new leads that ultimately led to a breakthrough.’

At the time of Plante’s disappearance, authorities said he “disappeared without a trace” and an extensive search of the mountainous region of Star Valley turned up no trace of him.

Authorities said they interviewed numerous people and exhausted their investigative efforts but never found a lead in the case.

Plante was entered into the national missing children database, but remained there for decades until her case went cold.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation escalated when they formed a special cold case unit that re-examined her case.

The sheriff’s office said advances in technology and investigative techniques ultimately helped find him.

“Investigators confirmed his identity and his missing person status was officially resolved,” the sheriff’s office said.

Officials said that ‘out of respect for Christina’s privacy and welfare’ they would not be releasing any further information about her case at this time.

The Daily Mail contacted Gila County Sheriff Adam Shephard for more information.
