Girl, 2, dies after falling into pond on Christmas Day

A two-year-old girl died after falling into a pond on Christmas Day.

The death of the little girl, whose name was Isobel, was described as a “tragic accident” by her family and stated that it was “the worst thing that could have happened”.

The girl was playing with toys at the family’s home in Doncaster. south yorkshireon December 25 when he disappeared from his family’s sight “for a moment.”

Isobel’s aunt, Abigail Maxwell, who is the sister of her father Aaron, said she then went to the garden and fell into the pond. Relatives tried to resuscitate Isobel until an ambulance arrived to take her to the hospital, but Isobel did not survive.

Police are understood to be treating the death as accidental and unsuspicious.

“Our girls, best friends, were surrounded by everyone playing with their new toys across the living room, kitchen and playroom,” Ms. Maxwell wrote. “We couldn’t find him for a moment, and at that moment he went into the garden and fell into the pond.

“A pond surrounded by temporary fences in a garden that he could never reach on his own. A tragic accident.

“We performed CPR until the ambulances arrived. She was taken to hospital but unfortunately she could not be saved. My brother and Tamara’s little girl. A much loved grandchild. Our little niece. My little girl’s best friend. There are no words to describe it and no one deserves that and anyone who knows them will agree, especially them.”

“We are all so heartbroken. As you can imagine, losing a baby is the worst thing that can happen to parents. He was so happy, so loved, and they were the best parents who gave him the most wonderful life.”

Isobel’s mother Tamara Wallace, who has a 25-week-old baby boy, said: “Everyone who knows Isobel and us knows how talented she is and that she has lived more in two years than some children do in their entire lives.

“The generosity is extraordinary. We stand so close to each other and are overwhelmed with love, which is exactly what we need.”

She added that Isobel should be remembered as a “magic girl” who was full of adventure and had fire in her soul, and said: “We will raise her baby brother the same way, and he will know he has a sister and that she is and will continue to be amazing.”

The fundraiser will help create “a special place where her magical personality can be remembered” in a fairy garden and will assist with funeral expenses, counseling and other costs. It raised more than £16,000.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.
