Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (November 27, 2025) said that India is witnessing an unprecedented opportunity in the space sector after its transformation into an open, collaborative and innovation-driven ecosystem where the private sector has taken flight in the last six to seven years.
The world’s expectations are high because the country’s space capacity is affordable and reliable. Stating that global companies want to produce satellites, benefit from launch services and seek technology partnerships with India, he called on stakeholders to make the most of this opportunity.
Inaugurating Skyroot’s Infinity Campus in Hyderabad via video conference, Mr. Modi said the global space economy is poised for multifaceted growth and represents a crucial opportunity for India’s youth. He also unveiled Vikram-I, the space technology startup’s first orbital rocket capable of launching satellites into orbit. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy attended the event.
Noting that the country is witnessing an unprecedented growth opportunity in the space sector, the Prime Minister said that when the government opened the sector, young people, especially Generation Z, came forward to benefit from all the advantages and more should take advantage of this opportunity. He added that more than 300 space initiatives give new hope to India’s space future.
Attractive address for investors
Resources may be a constraint, but their determination pushes startups to reach new heights; This is a spirit that has fueled the private space revolution in India. Generation Z engineers, designers, coders and scientists are creating new technologies in propulsion systems, composite materials, rocket platforms or satellite platforms. India’s youth are now working in fields that were unimaginable just a few years ago. India’s private space capability is creating a distinct identity globally, and the country’s space sector is becoming an attractive destination for global investors.
Wishing Skyroot founders Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka well, he said that the two young entrepreneurs are an inspiration to countless young space entrepreneurs. The Prime Minister said, “They were both confident in themselves, did not hesitate to take risks, and as a result, today the whole nation witnesses their success and the country is proud of them.”
Regarding the measures initiated by the government, he said that historic reforms have been achieved in India’s space sector, the government has opened the sector to private innovation and launched a new Space Policy. Expansion of the sector was also imperative as it became the basis of communications, agriculture, marine monitoring, urban planning, weather forecasting, and national security. The government has also made efforts to connect startups and industry with innovation and established IN-SPACe to provide ISRO’s facilities and technology to startups. The basis of this journey was the work that ISRO has undertaken for decades and which has given new wings to India’s space travel.
India is now moving towards opening up the nuclear sector
The changes being witnessed in the space sector are part of a larger startup revolution taking place in India. The scope of reforms is constantly expanding, and just as space innovation is being opened up to the private sector, India is now on track to open up the nuclear sector as well. A strong role of the private sector is envisaged, creating opportunities in small modular reactors, advanced reactors and nuclear innovation. He said this reform will give new impetus to India’s energy security and technological leadership.

Hailing the startup wave and Generation Z, he said India is the third largest startup ecosystem in the world and is home to more than 1.5 lakh registered startups. The government supports every young person, start-up, scientist, engineer and entrepreneur.
Skyroot’s Infinity Campus is a 2 lakh sq ft workspace for designing, developing, integrating and testing multiple launch vehicles, with the capacity to produce one orbital rocket every month. In its statement, PMO said that it launched the sub-orbital rocket named Vikram-S in November 2022, thus becoming the first Indian private company to launch a rocket into space.
