Alyn Owen, who runs second-hand goods business LOOT with her partner Daisy, said she was shocked to find the road closed when she returned home.

Speaking to WalesOnline he said: “I found the road closed due to a major fire at Old Grays Ford in Pontllanfraith, Blackwood.

“Many fire trucks were in the area and heavy smoke was rising from the top of the building.

“Over time, the building began to collapse and the roof also collapsed.

“Since the fire did not spread directly, the family in the neighboring house decided to evacuate for safety reasons.

“A large number of spectators have gathered outside the cordon.

“This appears to be a major event that started centrally and spread.

“There is also a welding supply store next door and a gas station on the other side, both of which pose serious risks due to flammable materials.

“There is a lot of concern in the local area at the moment.”
