Goa Guardians Pull Off Spectacular 3-2 Comeback Against Delhi Toofans

Hyderabad: Goa Guardians made a spectacular comeback by defeating Delhi Toofans 14-16, 11-15, 15-11, 16-13, 15-11 in the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday. Prince was named Player of the Match and Guardians moved up to fourth place with 10 points.

The opening set was a thriller with both sides being an exact match for each other. Dushyant Singh’s super serve briefly put Guardians ahead as Jesus Chourio and Mohammed Jasim struck early for Toofans. Jeffrey Menzel tried to close out the set for Goa but Toofans’ strong duo of Anu James and Chourio succeeded at the crucial moment to take the first set 16-14.

Toofans carried his rhythm into the second set and Carlos Berrios took the lead from outside. Despite Menzel’s sharp net play that kept Guardians in touch, setter Saqlain Tariq’s pinpoint assists to Chourio and Berrios secured a comfortable 15-11 victory as Toofans took two sets. Goa responded strongly in the third round with offensive energy from Nathaniel and serving pressure from Chirag Yadav. Prince led the defense with a perfect block as the Guardians finally found their rhythm and pulled back 15-11.

In the fourth set, Chourio and Berrios threatened to end things early for the Toofans, but Menzel’s explosive dunks and Prince’s dominance at the net inspired a thrilling comeback. Prince finished the set with a spectacular super serve to tie the match 16-13.

In the decisive fifth set, both teams traded blows early on before Goa’s Aravindan made a clever setter move and Prince continued his heroics in goal. Anu James fought hard for Toofans but Chirag Yadav’s powerful super point surge secured Guardians’ famous 3-2 victory.
