He claimed the men sent messages to Tran’s husband, including a photo of his wife, in an attempt to locate her. The men allegedly shot Tran after failing to “pull him out” and set fire to the SUV with his body inside. The burning car was later discovered in Beverly Hills.
Homicide detectives arrested three men, aged 32, 20 and 21, at Parramatta police station on Thursday morning. All three were charged with murder, conspiracy to kill Tran’s husband, previously wounding a person with intent to cause bodily harm, kidnapping and participating in a criminal group.
Doueihi said the days of organized criminals leaving family members unharmed are over.
“These young criminals are ruthless. They don’t care about ‘the rules’, if I can use that word… it’s in their best interest. They’re selfish, they’re greedy, they don’t think about the consequences. These guys are in big trouble,” he said. “They plan to serve long, long sentences in prison if convicted.”
Tran’s husband, who was co-operating with police, worked for a methamphetamine production syndicate allegedly run by Daniel Rodney Badger, a Sydney man who moved to Southeast Asia and is believed to be one of the Australian Federal Police’s highest value targets.
Badger’s organization is believed to be linked to: Alleged plot to kill Sydney father rounding up his children foiled from a nursery in Revesby earlier this month.
Tran’s alleged killer, an eight-year-old boy who was hit in the head with a baseball bat, emerged from a coma in the days after the attack. Doueihi said the boy made a “remarkable” recovery but had ongoing psychological problems, along with another 15-year-old boy who witnessed the abduction.
Tran emigrated from Vietnam a decade ago and was described by those who knew her as “patient, full of good humor, full of life, loving towards her children.”
