Gold Coast teen charged with child exploitation, torture, and extremist material

A 15-year-old Gold Coast boy has been arrested and charged with a number of serious offenses including allegations of torture, indecent treatment of a child and possession of extremist material.
Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) detectives executed a search warrant on September 8, 2025, which led to the teenager’s initial arrest for alleged torture and indecent treatment offences.
Following detailed investigations by the CPIU and the Counter Terrorism Investigation Unit, he was charged with possession of child abuse material and violent extremist material on 28 February 2026.
The boy, who was released on bail, is expected to appear in Southport Children’s Court on March 25.
South East Regional Crime Coordinator Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn said the charges underlined the Queensland Police Service’s ongoing commitment to targeting dangerous behaviour.
“Everyone in Queensland has the right to feel safe and not to be threatened or victimized,” Inspector Ahearn said.
He added that the Queensland Police Service (QPS) monitors individuals and groups who may threaten community safety and works closely with state and federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies to respond to potential extremism.
QPS urged members of the public to report hate crimes or serious defamation and stressed the importance of community engagement by calling Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
“We aim to improve safety, mutual understanding and trust through partnerships and interactions with Queensland’s culturally diverse communities,” Inspector Ahearn said.
