How much more snow are we getting in the Akron area? Cold weather persists

Keep your snow shovel and winter coats handy for a few more days.

National Weather Service Summit called for a lake-effect snow warning through 7 a.m. Monday for several counties in Northeast Ohio, including Portage, Medina and Cuyahoga.

An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected in Summit and Medina counties, with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected in Portage County.

Periodic snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour are expected early this evening, according to the NWS. The most persistent snowfall is expected to affect northeastern Lorain, northern Medina, northern and western Portage County, and central Summit counties. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slippery and dangerous. Visibility may drop to less than a quarter mile due to falling and blowing snow.

The National Weather Service’s warning stated that people should consider postponing all travel. If travel is necessary, drivers should drive with extreme caution and consider purchasing a winter storm kit, which includes items such as tire chains, jumper cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and other things that might help in an emergency.

How much snow fell in the area? Up to 7 inches have already been reported in some areas

Some areas woke up to a significant white cover outside. According to the National Weather Service’s 9:23 a.m. local storm report, the following snowfall reports have been recorded so far:

  • 3.8 inches in North Ridgeville.

  • 3.4 inches in Streetsboro.

  • 7 inches in Strongsville.

The cold wind adds extra heat to the air

Snowstorms are not the only concern of those who go out. According to the National Weather Service, today’s high temperature is expected to be near 20 with wind chills as low as -3. Wind gusts can be as high as 30 mph. The lowest temperature tonight is expected to be around 11 degrees.

While the highest temperature on Monday is expected to be around 21 degrees, the chance of precipitation between 07.00 and 13.00 is expected to be 20%. The lowest temperature tomorrow is expected to be around 11 degrees.
