Gates Widened, Medical Triage Centres With Beds And Doctors At Chinnaswamy Stadium To Deal With Emergency

BENGALUR: The extent to which the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has complied with the recommendations of the John Michael D’Cunha Commission report on security measures at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium will be announced in a few days, while Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru Seemanth Kumar Singh on Tuesday said that the Bengaluru police have made elaborate security arrangements at the KSCA-run M. Chinnaswamy stadium in the city of Bengaluru for RCB to play their matches at the stadium. RCB is scheduled to be at the stadium on March 28 and April 5. RCB will play 5 home matches at M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
The existing gates have been widened for easy access to the stadium, while the 7 gates on Cubbon Road now have 28 openings. He said that the Link Road connecting MG Road, rather than the Cubbon road, is very important for entering the stadium for spectators coming by Metro train, while Queen’s Road will be used by players/corporate/terrace pass holders to enter and exit the stadium.
The Police Commissioner said a number of security measures include the installation of 500 security cameras, four medical triage centers with doctors and four beds in the stadium to respond to emergencies. Additionally, 9 ambulances will be available inside and outside the stadium to deal with any emergencies, if any.
Security arrangements at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium became extremely important due to the stampede at the stadium on June 4, 2025, where a large crowd of people made desperate attempts to enter the stadium to watch the congratulations of RCB players on their win in the IPL-2025 final. 11 people died and 70 people were injured in the stampede, and the incident was investigated by retired Judge Michael D’Cunha. He submitted his report with recommendations to be made at M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
In a press conference held in Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that the host team Royal Challengers Bengaluru will play their matches at the stadium on March 28 and April 5.
“The medical triage centers in the stadium are large enough and will be set up at four locations in the stadium,” the commissioner said, adding that to help manage crowds, “the venue where IPL matches will be played will have Artificial Intelligence-powered cameras to monitor gathering places.”
Seemanth Kumar Singh appealed to the spectators to use Metro trains to reach the stadium to watch the matches and stated that RCB not only booked tickets but also booked parking spaces to watch the matches. Ticket reservations can be made with the online and mobile-based Quick Response (QR) code that will be created 5 hours before the stadium gates open, and ticketed spectators will be allowed to enter the stadium 4 hours before the match starts.
The commissioner said trial drills have been conducted at the stadium to deal with emergencies and the final evacuation drill will be held on Thursday.
