Goldsmiths apologises to Jewish students and staff over ‘culture’ of antisemitism | Goldsmiths, University of London

Goldsmiths College in London apologized to Jewish students and staff after an independent investigation has allowed the “culture of anti -Semitism to accumulate on its campus for several years.

The investigation concluded that Jewish students were exposed to anti -Semitism during their work in jewelers, and that the college administration did not help Jewish students and potential applicants to “feel safe from anti -Semitism and anti -Semitism”.

The investigation has been assigned by the University Council in 2023 to look at the experiences of Jewish students and personnel since 2018.

Mohinderpal Sethi Kc, Who He directed the investigation“It seems to me that a culture was built in Goldsmiths, which has been a culture for years, at least Jewish students feel a legitimate discomfort on the campus.

“It is clear from the evidence to me that Jewish students are probably exposed to anti -Semitism.

“This is clearly not specific to jewelers, but this investigation is related to jewelers, and I think that Jewish students and staff do not do enough as an institution to make them feel safe and welcome.”

Goldsmiths, a part of the University of London, said that he accepted the findings of the investigation and would adopt suggestions, including better mechanisms to report and monitor anti -Semitism, to develop support services and to reform anti -Semitism as racism. In addition, the Jewish community, students and staff will establish a new advisory panel.

“The investigation reveals a disturbing picture, and I am sorry that our community and culture are lacking the behaviors we expect.

“The report rightly states that we owe it to old, present and future Jewish students and staff to learn from our mistakes.

“As a community, we share the responsibility to show that Goldsmiths can be a place where Jewish students and staff are proud to be a part of our university, support and are proud of being a part of our university.”

He added: “Today, we are committing to cultural change based on our intellectual heritage and social justice for Jewish students and personnel and all religions and beliefs.”

While Sethi’s investigation listened to the uncomfortable reports of the far -right graffiti, which can only be accessed by jewelery students or staff, the university’s Jewish society was effectively dispersed due to security concerns and protests last year.

A Jewish student was forced to leave the university residences due to the hostility of other students, including the holiness of a religious symbol at the entrance of a Jewish house.

In the report, he said: “The evidence of the above students about the anti -Semitism in the college was supported by the evidence of an academician who gave information about the anti -Semitic tropics and conspiracies they read in his articles.

“For example, ‘Jews rule the media and culture and rule New York, and therefore they can get musical to Broadway’ or ‘Jews all over the BBC’.”

Goldsmiths, Prof.Dr. Adam said he was appointed to lead Dinham. Two -year antisemitism action plan.

“This will create a culture of belonging that will feed evidence -based dialogue, positive activism and participation for all Jewish students and personnel and all religions and beliefs in the university.”
