Railways have also improved operational measures to ensure smooth movement and manage heavy traffic efficiently.
How much is the New Railways fee?
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Railways on Sunday announced the rationalization of passenger fares, with the revised fare structure coming into force from December 26, aimed at balancing rising operating costs while minimizing the impact on passengers. According to the railways, there will be no increase in fares for suburban services and Monthly Season Ticket (MST) holders, providing convenience to daily commuters. Similarly, there will be no fare increase for ordinary class passengers traveling up to 215 kilometers.
Fares will increase by one penny per kilometer for journeys exceeding 215 kilometers in regular class. While the fare increase in Postal and Express non-AC categories will be two paise per kilometer, AC classes will also see an increase of two paise per kilometer. The ministry announced that the financial impact of the increase on passengers will be limited. For example, as per the revised structure, a 500-kilometre non-air-conditioned journey will cost just Rs 10 extra. The rationalization is expected to generate an additional Rs 600 million in revenue.
