Anti-migrant protest erupts outside block of flats after two injured in Edinburgh | UK | News

Anti-immigration protesters gathered at a block of flats on Monday where a man was arrested after two people were injured in a knife attack. Protesters who said they were demonstrating against illegal immigration condemned Police Scotland and both the Scottish and UK Governments outside Cobbinshaw House in the Calder district of Edinburgh on Friday.
Anti-immigration protesters chanted “stop the boats” and other slogans before marching through the streets towards St Nicholas Parish Church, where a small group of counter-protesters were demonstrating a few streets away. A large number of Police Scotland officers were deployed to keep the two groups separate. There seems to have been no incident of physical violence between them.
Scottish and Union flags, some bearing the message ‘stop the boats’, were photographed being waved by anti-immigration protesters.
It is believed that at least 100 people participated in the protest, which ended around 20:00.
Edinburgh Napier University has reportedly told all students and staff that its Sighthill campus will close early as a “precautionary measure” due to the protests.
A spokesperson told The National: “We are aware of potential protests planned in the Sighthill area this evening and are closing our Sighthill campus at 4pm as a precautionary measure.
“The safety of the Edinburgh Napier University community is our priority.”
Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
