Google strikes $2.4 bn deal with Windsurf, to hire CEO Varun Mohan, get AI licensing rights after OpenAI talks collapse
Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc., senior executives and artificial intelligence starting Windsurf made an agreement of $ 2.4 billion to employ license rights. News Agency Bloomberg, the agreement after the negotiations between Windsurf and Google’s rival Openai Stalled, reported that people are aware of their development.

Failed agreement with Openai
Windsurf had previously made an agreement with Openai for $ 3 billion; However, Microsoft Corp, a partly large Openai investor and the agreement was not concluded due to tension.
Windsurf refused to access Microsoft’s intellectual property, and Openai did not secure the technology giant’s agreement at this point. This is ongoing negotiations on the efforts of the company between Microsoft and Openai to restructure a commercial asset. Microsoft’s current agreement with Openai states that the software main branch has the right to access the starting technology.
Meanwhile, Openai believed that he had reached an agreement with Windsurf and announced the acquisition almost in early May. A letter of intention was signed and Windsurf investors were informed about the waterfall agreements and each party said how much money is expected to earn.
On Friday, an Openai spokesman said the exclusivity time for a purchase proposal has ended and Windsurf allowed other offers to discover.
Google’s latest agreement comes in the midst of a tendency of major technology firms, executives and technology from the AI initiatives that emerged through agreements under full acquisitions. Critics argue that these arrangements are designed to prevent antitröst arrangements.
In 2024, Microsoft hired a significant portion of its founders and Blowling AI staff and licensed the company’s artificial intelligence software. In the report, Windsurf, founded in 2021, provided over $ 200 million to provide venture capital.
