Google unveils Gemini 3 with a commitment to localize data in India

New Delhi: Google on Tuesday introduced Gemini-3, its latest core artificial intelligence (AI) model, with an important assurance for India: all data generated by users of its advanced platform will remain within the country’s borders.

Google has not confirmed whether the Gemini-3 model and its associated data will be localized immediately. MintIn response to ‘s questions, a company spokesperson noted a Nov. 11 statement from Saurabh Tiwary, Google’s vice president and general manager of cloud AI: “We are opening early testing for our latest and most advanced Gemini models to Indian customers. We are also committed to launching the most powerful Gemini models in India with full data overlay support.”

Google’s commitment to store data in India comes at a time when data belonging to ChatGPT users operated by OpenAI has been partially localized in India since May 7, starting with commercial customers. On February 5, Mint He reported that the company was in talks with data centers on the same issue.

Regulatory pressure drives localization

Google undertakes local storage of AI usage data and related models to comply with India’s regulations. This will also be important for businesses, analysts said.

“The public sector will largely adopt AI applications in the long run, so it will be crucial for Google to localize its AI models for businesses to adopt its services in the long run,” said Kashyap Kompella, senior AI analyst and founder of RPA2AI Research.

Sectoral regulators such as the Reserve Bank of India are also increasing pressure on Big Tech to localize sensitive information off Indian shores.

Google Artificial Intelligence Chief Architect Koray Kavukçuoğlu said that in Gemini-3, the model offers improvements in the contextual understanding of queries in text, image, audio and video inputs. Model; search is available for immediate availability in the Gemini app, AI Studio for developers, and Vertex AI, the company’s platform for businesses to build their own AI agents.

Google also launched Antigravity, a coding assistant with built-in AI agents for certain industries that it says will automate the ability for businesses to build their own apps.

Replying to MintResponding to ‘s questions, a spokesperson said that Google has already received work from companies such as Tata Consultancy Services and Reliance Industries as early customers for its Gemini AI platform. The company is also working on industry-specific AI adoption with organizations such as Apollo Hospitals in healthcare, MakeMyTrip in travel, Myntra in e-commerce and Glance in social media.

Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google and Alphabet, said in a note on the launch of Gemini-3: “It’s a cutting-edge device for reasoning, designed to grasp depth and nuance, whether it’s detecting subtle clues in a creative idea or picking apart overlapping layers of a difficult problem. Gemini 3 is also much better at understanding the context and intent behind your request, so you get what you need with less incentive. It’s great to think about getting it from just reading text and images in just two years.” He moved towards reading the room.”

Demis Hassabis, CEO of DeepMind, Google’s AI research arm, said in a post that Gemini-3 “adds depth and nuance to every interaction.”

“His answers are smart, concise and direct, providing real insight rather than clichés and pandering, telling you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear,” he said. The company also launched Gemini-3 Deep Think, a reasoning model based on the latest AI model.

Google’s launch comes on the heels of its key rival OpenAI releasing its latest model, GPT-5.1, on November 13. Chief executive Sam Altman said in a statement that the new models are “not only smarter, but also more fun to talk to.”

As the race to adopt enterprise AI heats up, new model releases and localization policies will likely determine which path businesses take to adopt AI models and platforms, analysts said.

“Corporate spending on AI agents will gradually increase. But it is crucial that Google is globally perceived as technology leaders in cutting-edge leading models,” RPA2AI’s Kompella added. “While actual customer spending will gradually increase, if Google benchmarks are not seen as leading, this will impact their market value. In the end, who leads the world of AI will depend on who among the Big Tech firms launches the latest model and eclipses the other.”
