Google’s carbon capture the latest big tech greenwashing fantasy

There is truly nothing like carbon capture and storage (CCS) when it comes to extending the use of fossil fuels. For decades it has served as the ineradicable fantasy of high-emission industry; theoretically capturing CO2 emissions and storing them underground to avoid damaging the atmosphere.
There is one tune that plays over and over again throughout the entire history of every variant of this technology: Big promises, then complete failure, then bigger promises repeated.
The latest update from the Global CCS Institute (GCCSi) shows that this capture capacity will be approximately 64 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (MTCO2-e) in 2024, which is approximately 0.17%
